This project will explain how to remove the headrest from either seat. In the photographs below I am working on a seat that has been removed from the car. The seat cover has been removed so that you can get a better view of the insides of the seat
#2 Phillips screwdriver
Stiff Putty Knife
I would say on a scale of 1 to 5, this project is a 1
This is a picture of the back of the seat as seen from the bottom. If the seat were in the car, the end of the screwdriver would be hitting the floor behind the seat. |
Remove both the left and right screws that hold the back of the seat in place. Remove the back by pulling the back edge out and sliding the panel off. |
With the back panel removed you can see the headrest support sticking out the bottom of the raceway |
Notice that there is a slot in the headrest support. |
If you look behind the support, you will see a spring loaded tang that keeps the headrest from coming out. |
Pull the headrest out as far as it will go then push it back in just enough to disengage the tang. Now place a stiff putty knife between the tang and the raceway. |
To get a little leverage it helps to hold the putty knife like this. Now pull the headrest out of the seat. |
See, that was pretty easy! |
You might also want to remove the plastic raceway guide. This is done by inserting the putty knife on the backside of the seat and pressing down while you pull up. |
Here's a picture of the raceway guide. |
